Korle-Bu: Authorities issue 48-hour directive to suspend SME unit

Weeks after the death of a seventy year old man in his car over lack of beds at some of the country’s hospital facilities, the challenges in the healthcare system have become public.

It is a story with its origins in seven hospitals in Accra, which turned the patient away for lack of beds. Today, the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has issued a 48-hour directive, to stop admissions in its Surgical, Medical, Emergency unit, to de-congest the unit that has only 36 beds, taking care of over 70 patients.
