Rice farmers at the Tono Irrigation site at Navrongo in the Upper East Region are optimistic of a bumper harvest this year despite the torrential rains that affected most of their farms. According to the farmers the over 4 thousand subsidised fertilizer provided by the government as part of the planting for food and jobs initiative have had an impact on production this year. They are however appealing to government to support them with machines to enable them to harvest the over one thousand four hundred and fifty (1,450) hectares of rice they have cultivated.
